Snowshoeing in Kananaskis Free Desktop Wallpaper As a little bonus for my friends and followers every month I provide a free image for use as your desktop background wallpaper on your computer. Each beautiful photo is a picture that I have created and it always includes a calendar overlay for the month. I know that I’m always looking for a calendar and having one on my desktop is very convenient! This months wallpaper image is from a day trip to Peter Lougheed Provincial Park in Kananaskis Country. There are plenty of designated snowshoe routes in Kananaskis and this picture is from a family trip around the Penstock loop. The Penstock loop is relatively easy with very little elevation change, so it was an ideal choice for getting the kids used to their new snowshoes. It is also very well traveled, so unless you are in the first group out after a big snowfall there isn't much trail-breaking required in deep snow. So other than the fact that you are wearing snowshoes, doing this trip is very similar to going for a hike in the woods. But as I learned when my snowshoe broke, the snowshoes really do make a massive difference and walking on this trail without them is very hard! Fortunately we were most of the way around and I only had to slog it out for a little while to get back to the car! NEW - Facebook Timeline Cover Image New this month is a version of the wallpaper that is perfectly sized for use on your Facebook Timeline. Snow Bunny

We've had a White-tailed Jackrabbit visiting our yard for most of the last week. It disappeared for a couple of days, but returned yesterday, just in time for Snowpocalypse to roll into town. The poor little bunny dude looks so miserable out there, but it seems comfortable enough all nestled down into the snow. I'm glad it's not me out there!

Free Desktop Wallpaper for March 2011

This months background wallpaper image comes from a walk in my neighbourhood. This is another image that is the direct result of the icy cold air that we've had for so much of the winter in Calgary this year. The ice fog forms almost every night and coats everything around it in a thick layer of frost. These ice crystals were a happy accident that formed as a result of many layers of frost forming over night and breaking down during the days that follow. Winter can be a beautiful thing! Free Desktop Wallpaper for February 2011

This months background wallpaper image comes from a walk along the shores of the Bow River. The icy cold air in Calgary resulted in huge plumes of ice fog forming all along river. The fog coated everything around it in a thick layer of frost, and these remnants of a summer long past were no exception. The rising sun in the background washed the entire scene in a beautiful orange glow. Although it was extremely cold out, it was worth the pain to enjoy the sight. Pet Portraits at Pawsitively Natural Dog Daycare

Pet photography is lots of fun and so I was very excited while getting ready for this shoot. I got to hang out with a dozen dogs at Pawsitively Natural Dog Daycare. We started out by going for a long walk with 9 of the dogs. It was the first big snow day of the year in Calgary and so the outdoor shots were a little challenging due to the cold and the snow. We went back inside the daycare afterwards for some more pet playtime. One of the key images that I was trying to create was a shot of Eric (the owner of the day care) with all of the dogs spread out around him while they went for a walk. In my original vision of this shot there were beautiful leaves in their golden fall colors all around us. Sometimes you have to adapt to the reality of the sitution, and I'm actually really happy with the snowy images that were available to us! I have posted a few of my favorite images below, but you can find all of the pictures (indexed by dog) at http://events.RiverwoodPhotography.com. Prints and Digital Downloads are available for purchase there. I'm looking forward to working with Eric and his clients more in the future. In fact we have another event already planned for December 4th. Please consider joining us for some supervised play at the Riverpark Off Leash Dog Park on December 4th at 10:00 AM. Eric will be there with some special treats for each participant and he will also be available to give you some tips and tricks on how to improve your relationship with your pet. I will be there ready to create [...]
