This month's calendar features a Trumpeter Swan in the Bow River near Carburn Park in SE Calgary. Migration season is just around the corner but with the extreme cold weather that we've had for weeks in Calgary this bird seems to be a little overly optimistic. Having siad that it didn't seem to be bothered by the cold at all and was happily eating and preening in the water.
This month's calendar features a beautiful line of frost covered trees on a prairie farm field to the east of Calgary. It was one of those bright hazy days where you couldn't see much of the sky in front. But every once in awhile when you turn around you find something amazing! I got very lucky when I found this line of icy trees that the skies had cleared behind them and the cloud formations made the image far more dramatic than it would have been otherwise!
This month's calendar features a vee formation of Canada Geese flying over the Bow River in SE Calgary. It was a very bright and hazy day and the geese were almost lost in the haze and the light of the sun behind them.
This month's calendar features an icy wintery landscape scene from the shores of the Bow River. It was an extremely cold day and a beautiful layer of ice fog blanketed the river. I saw the soft bumps of the rocks on the shoreline covered in snow and knew that I had to create this image for the calendar this month!
This months calendar image features a stand of beautiful white birch trees in winter. We went snowshoeing at the West Bragg Creek Provincial Recreation Area in the foothills southwest of Calgary. We made our way around the Snowshoe Hare trail, which is a very popular trail for beginners to snowshoeing. It's not too terribly busy but popular enough that the trail is well marked and beaten down by other visitors. It's also a good distance (about 6 km) if you want to take your kids.
