Slideshow – Fall Portraits at Carburn Park

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kR35xS0culc&w=640] Carburn Park is one of my favorite places in Calgary to do portrait sessions at any time of year. In the fall the beauty of the park is magnified by the golden yellow leaves and it becomes a perfect backdrop for family portraits. There are so many great places in the park to explore and play, so it's great for kids and adults at the same time. I met David and Kelsey at the park for a family session last weekend and we were able to hit all of my favorite spots in the park. It was a great session and we had lots of fun! This slideshow contains a mix of posed and candid images of the family as we wandered around the park. Everyone had a great time and it was really great to hang out with such a wonderful family in a beautiful place. This is the third portrait session that I've done for the members of this family and I'm honored that they keep coming back. For that I say Thanks! Every session has been very different, but they have all been fun... Here are a few of my favorite images from the day: Just for fun, here are a couple of other images from business portrait sessions I've done with David and Kelsey:

Andrew Lin | Better Business Portrait

Although the fall portrait season is in full swing, I still have some of my "normal" work going on at the same time. I had a great session that I wanted to share. Andrew is a Real Estate Broker with RE/MAX House of Real Estate in Calgary. He needed a business portrait for use on his marketing materials and social media accounts. He knew exactly the type of shot that he wanted, right down to the arrangement of the studio lighting for the portrait! This is very different from most of my portrait sessions. My clients typically don't know what they want or need and they are very open to suggestion. I always ask a few questions to make sure that I understand how and where the images will be used, and how many images the client wants. With that information I can suggest some appropriate clothing, backdrop color, and poses. But when the client knows what they want I'm happy to work with them to create a specific look and feel. In this case Andrew found another image in my portfolio that he liked and I was able to recreate the lighting from the previous session. It worked out really well and before Andrew left he had picked the image he wanted and I was able to get the final product out to him before the end of the day. Smooth! Chinook Outriders Motorcycle Club Photoshoot Redux

Last weekend I got together with the Ladies of the Chinook Outriders Motorcycle Club (the Calgary chapter of the Women in the Wind) for another photoshoot. Long time readers may remember that I created individual and group portraits for the same club last summer. We got some great results last year and they wanted to do it all over again this year. It has been a tough thing to schedule, but we finally managed to pull it off this past weekend. Last year the shoot was done at Fish Creek Park and the images all had trees with bright green leaves in the background. The images looked great but we wanted to do something a little different this year. We chose an industrial location and used the loading dock and red brick walls of the old Molson Brewery in Inglewood (more recently the West Key Storage building) as a backdrop. I really wanted to give them something striking and different and the industrial location helped with that. You will see from the following example images that I processed many of the images to really play up the grungy location that we used. Thanks again to all the members of the club that came out. It was great to meet all the new people who weren't at the portrait session last year, and very flattering that so many come back for a second year. I had lots of fun and I'm already cooking up some new ideas for the next one! All of the images have been uploaded to the Client Area of the website. Prints, digital files, and many other products (including our new line of Framed Prints) can all be ordered directly from the [...]
