One on Wednesday

Here's a very cute photo of my son Andrew that I thought I'd share today. We have a wedding to go to just before Christmas and some new clothes were required. Some of our family members that live in far away parts of the country wanted to see the new outfits, so I quickly put my portrait studio into action! This is Andrew's first suit. Although he's not so sure about the tie, he's pretty proud of how he looks in his new "costume". I think he's pretty dapper myself! But I have to say that I'm pretty shocked by how grown up he looks while all dressed up. Of course you have to look past his goofy look with the tongue sticking out and the Teddy Bear in his arm in order to see that... But that's how it goes when photographing children; sometimes you have to let them do what they need to do in order to get comfortable. If Andrew wants to bring his Teddy Bear into the studio, he's welcome to do it. Have a great hump day!

Images in Use: Mako Water Polo Club Poster

A number of sports images that I recently created for the Calgary Mako Water Polo Club have been used for a poster that the club will be using to advertise for prospective new players. It's always fun and exciting to see how people use photography in different ways... This poster should be posted in public areas, pools, and recreation facilities in South East Calgary. Let me know if you see a copy of it in the wild! To see larger copies of some of these images please check out the blog post at http://www.riverwoodphotography.com/sports/sports-action-mako-water-polo-club Prints and Digital Downloads are also available at http://events.RiverwoodPhotography.com.

Pardon the Interruptions…

Frequent visitors to the site may have noticed a lot of turbulence lately. It's an unforunate situation, but my web hosting provider has been having a whole swack of trouble lately (yes, that is the technical term for it) keeping everything running. I understand that they've rolled out a bunch of hardware changes that should stabilize the situation shortly. As an added bonus they've also introduced some cool new software that they are expecting to make my web sites load much faster. I'm hopeful that all of that will be rolled out by tomorrow. So thanks to everyone for sticking through it with me, and let's look forward to the good times that are supposed to be coming!

Masquerade Ball & Charity Auction

I recently had an opportunity to provide event photography coverage at a very cool event in downtown Calgary (at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel). The event was a Masquerade Ball and a Charity Auction that was hosted by Financial Management Brokerage of Calgary. The party included both a silent auction and a live auction to raise money in support of the Alberta Children's Hospital. It was a first class event and I got to mix and mingle with the guests and create both posed and candid portraits of the attendees, and also to capture the spirit of the event. There were a great many auction items available for sale, including dozens of beautiful Masquerade masks, so I was sure to create images of many of the best masks. There were so many on display that I know I didn't even see them all, never mind actually photograph all of them! Many of the party-goers were dressed in beautiful ball gowns and fancy suites, and most had their own masks as well. I tried to create images of as many of them as possible as well. The event was a smashing success and the auctions raised a lot of money for the Children's hospital. It was truly an honor to be able to participate at such an event! Here are a few sample images from the party:

Images from Halloween Spooktacular

I wanted to share a few sample images from our special "Garage of Horrors" studio event on Halloween Night. Every Trick or Treater that stopped by the garage was offered a free digital picture, and a delicious candy treat! It was lots of fun to do this event and I was really happy to see how excited everyone got once they realized what was going on. Many of our friends and neighbors in the Riverbend area knew in advance that I was planning to take pictures on Halloween night, but we also had lots of others come by that had no idea. I think we surprised and impressed everyone and it was great to see the reactions. I am definitely planning to do something similar again next year, and it also has me thinking about lots of other opportunities to get my neighbours involved. Although I saw lots of really cool costumes, the best showing of all was my friend Nicole and her family. Mom and Dad where dressed as chef's while brought little Baby Alexis (who's not so much a baby anymore) was in her Lobster costume (complete with the pot to boil her in). All the images turned out great, but here are a few more of my favorites:
