Growing Together Gala Dinner

Here's one from the archives... Way back in the spring I covered a small private event to celebrate the award winners of a corporate video contest. The winners were very excited by their success and they got to together to celebrate in style! Although it was relatively small in terms of the number of people involved, it was a Gala Dinner by almost any description and the went to great lengths to put it together! I love doing event photography and covering parties and small events like this one is lots of fun. This one was better than most because of the small size and the intimacy and I'm definitely looking forward to the next one from this great group. Here are a few images that show the character of the event and the fun that was had by the attendees:

Pet Portraits at Pawsitively Natural Dog Daycare

Pet photography is lots of fun and so I was very excited while getting ready for this shoot. I got to hang out with a dozen dogs at Pawsitively Natural Dog Daycare. We started out by going for a long walk with 9 of the dogs. It was the first big snow day of the year in Calgary and so the outdoor shots were a little challenging due to the cold and the snow. We went back inside the daycare afterwards for some more pet playtime. One of the key images that I was trying to create was a shot of Eric (the owner of the day care) with all of the dogs spread out around him while they went for a walk. In my original vision of this shot there were beautiful leaves in their golden fall colors all around us. Sometimes you have to adapt to the reality of the sitution, and I'm actually really happy with the snowy images that were available to us! I have posted a few of my favorite images below, but you can find all of the pictures (indexed by dog) at http://events.RiverwoodPhotography.com. Prints and Digital Downloads are available for purchase there. I'm looking forward to working with Eric and his clients more in the future. In fact we have another event already planned for December 4th. Please consider joining us for some supervised play at the Riverpark Off Leash Dog Park on December 4th at 10:00 AM. Eric will be there with some special treats for each participant and he will also be available to give you some tips and tricks on how to improve your relationship with your pet. I will be there ready to create [...]

Ordering Deadline for Christmas

Many people have been asking about ordering deadlines before Christmas... Here's the short story: Dec 8 - standard print sizes up to 11x14 (including photo greeting cards) Nov 26 - larger prints, canvases, and most press printed products (including folded greeting cards) It may be possible to get orders completed in time for Christmas after these dates; however, special shipping arrangements (and increased cost) may be required. Note that Gift Certificates are also available at any time. These make great last minute gifts for those hard-to-buy-for people! *************** The longer story is that I need 1 week for most orders, and 2 weeks for most larger items. Some really large products and specialty items may take longer. In particular albums and photobooks that require significant time on my part to design could take a month or more. The last date that will be able to deliver orders is December 15th. I will be available and willing to work with you past that date; however, I may have to get my print lab to ship your products directly to you. I normally prefer to inspect everything before it goes out to you. But if it's really important that you get your products before Christmas, and if you're willing to take a risk, then I'm willing to consider this as an alternative... *************** I hope this helps? Please feel free to contact me if you need any additional information or if I can help you with your selections and the ordering process in any way. Happy Holidays!

A Recent Dog Photography Session

This will be just a quick post to share a few images from a recent pet photography session I had with a very cute dog. I love playing with and photographing dogs and this cutie was great at both. As soon as I arrived he ran right up to me and we started playing. When I was ready to make a few pictures he immediately settled down and did everything I asked. It makes my job so much easier when the subject does what I ask! Dogs and children are usually much more free-spirited, so this was a real treat for me. He did add his own personal flavor to the session though and I got a few very interesting images beyond the standard portraits that I was trying to make! I've got more pet photography sessions planned in the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned for related posts coming soon.

In Memorium

I took my children down to see the memorial crosses that have been erected along Memorial Drive (in Calgary) in honour of all of the fallen soldiers with ties to Calgary. Over 1500 crosses were placed this year. While very sad, it is also really quite amazing and it was really nice to be able to take the kids there and to try to explain to them what it was all about. Although I have no direct ties (that I know of) to Robert Phillips, it was interesting to find someone with whom we share a name. This was the only cross we could find for anyone named Phillips...
