Meier Family Studio Portraits
My sister and her family came to visit over the Easter long weekend so I had them into the studio along with my kids to create some nice family portraits and a few great images of the cousins together.

Nelson Siblings at The Ranche Print credits? What are print credits? I get that question all the time! Up to now my Lifestyle and Studio Portrait sessions were charged at a fixed price that included a dollar value that could be used toward a future order of gift prints, collections, or enlargements. Almost every one of my clients over the last year has had questions about what that meant, how they could be used, and so on. I have simplified the entire process! Yay! Going forward every family or children's portrait session will include a specific set of products rather than a dollar value worth of print credits. For example the Lifestyle Portrait Session and the Studio Portrait Session both include an 8x10, (2) 5x7's and a set of 8 wallets. This included items could change in the future but for now that's what it is. This will be much easier for everyone to understand and I am very excited to implement it! Note that this has not yet changed for some of the other types of sessions I offer. For example, maternity sessions, newborn sessions, and weddings all still include print credits. When I get some more time I will be completely revamping those guides as well...
I've been doing lots of pet photography lately and I had a great visit with Earl the Pug, and Bella the Staffordshire Terrier, in my studio. These dogs are both beautiful and they were wonderful models! It's been awhile since we've had a dog around the house and my daughter Melanie was very excited when these gentle friends arrived. She appointed herself their caretaker and made she they were comfortable and doing what they were supposed to be doing. She also helped to get each dogs attention and make sure they were looking at the camera when I wanted them too. It was a very fun session and I'm looking forward to doing a lot more dog photography sessions coming up. A few of my favorite images from the session are found below, and more are in the Client Area.
I wanted to share a few sample images from our special "Garage of Horrors" studio event on Halloween Night. Every Trick or Treater that stopped by the garage was offered a free digital picture, and a delicious candy treat! It was lots of fun to do this event and I was really happy to see how excited everyone got once they realized what was going on. Many of our friends and neighbors in the Riverbend area knew in advance that I was planning to take pictures on Halloween night, but we also had lots of others come by that had no idea. I think we surprised and impressed everyone and it was great to see the reactions. I am definitely planning to do something similar again next year, and it also has me thinking about lots of other opportunities to get my neighbours involved. Although I saw lots of really cool costumes, the best showing of all was my friend Nicole and her family. Mom and Dad where dressed as chef's while brought little Baby Alexis (who's not so much a baby anymore) was in her Lobster costume (complete with the pot to boil her in). All the images turned out great, but here are a few more of my favorites:
I was honored to be invited to create some family and individual portraits for some old friends. They asked me for studio style portraits of their youngest child to match some images they already had of their older child, and also some indoor and outdoor portraits of the entire family. I have a portable studio (including backdrops and lighting gear) that I can set up anywhere, so we turned their living room into a photography studio! I made portraits of both of the children individually and with their parents, and then the whole family together against a black background. The black background is very dramatic images and I really love black and white images created against it. After finishing up inside we went outside to take advantage of a beautiful fall day in Calgary. They live in a prime location adjacent to a very scenic "green" space. I have to put green in quotes because, although the session was completed in early September, the fall colors had already fully arrived. The weather was fantastic and the scenery was perfect to make some lovely fall portraits of the family! I love doing this kind of session where there's lots of variety and the images are all very different. It was a very fun session and it was great hang out with my friends! On a related note... Fast forward only a couple of weeks later to today and the fall colors are already peaking. If you're thinking about getting some fall portraits made this year I would really recommend that you book your session soon. The nice weather is supposed to hold for a little while longer, but the leaves will only stay on the trees [...]
