Print credits? What are print credits?

Nelson Siblings at The Ranche Print credits? What are print credits? I get that question all the time! Up to now my Lifestyle and Studio Portrait sessions were charged at a fixed price that included a dollar value that could be used toward a future order of gift prints, collections, or enlargements. Almost every one of my clients over the last year has had questions about what that meant, how they could be used, and so on. I have simplified the entire process! Yay! Going forward every family or children's portrait session will include a specific set of products rather than a dollar value worth of print credits. For example the Lifestyle Portrait Session and the Studio Portrait Session both include an 8x10, (2) 5x7's and a set of 8 wallets. This included items could change in the future but for now that's what it is. This will be much easier for everyone to understand and I am very excited to implement it! Note that this has not yet changed for some of the other types of sessions I offer. For example, maternity sessions, newborn sessions, and weddings all still include print credits. When I get some more time I will be completely revamping those guides as well...

Image in Use: eCanada Bond Review

I was recently contracted to create an editorial image for the Fall/Winter issue of "eCanada Bond Review", which is a financial industry trade publication produced by CanDeal for their clients. The image was to support an article about the City of Calgary's use of electronic trading technology in its treasury department, and was to feature 2 city employees. There were no specific instructions on what the image should depict, other than it should be a portrait of the 2 employees. I wanted to create an image that showed something of Calgary rather than to just show the employees in a faceless corporate environment (as editorial images used in corporate magazines so often do). Because the subjects of the photo both work at City Hall in Calgary it immediately made sense to step outside so that we could include the Calgary Tower in the image. We shot a number of other corporate style images using the glass and metal of the Plus 15 as a backdrop, but I was pretty sure that they would end up using one of the Calgary Tower images. Sure enough they did. You can download the magazine from the publications section of the CanDeal website if you want to learn more.

Cancer Sucks, and I want to do something about it!

Movember (the month formerly known as November) is a global campaign responsible for ugly moustaches appearing on faces all over Canada and the world. With their “Mo’s” proudly on display these men raise hundreds or even thousands of dollars each to build awareness and support research unto men's health issues, specifically prostate cancer. Cancer Sucks Yes, cancer sucks. But we can do something about it! Although it has been a couple of years since I directly participated in this campaign by growing a Mo, this will be the 4th year in a row that I have participated. I have a great group of buddies that have been proudly growing their Mo's every year and I have always photographed the final result. You can see some of the fun and ridiculous photos that have resulted at the bottom of this page. But before you do that, please use the links below to click through and learn how you can support my Movember campaign by donating, or even better, by participating in Movember by growing your own Mo! If you don't like donating online then you can download a Movember donation form to send by mail instead. Mo Portraits - FREE Don't forget to come back here every now and then throughout the month of Movember to learn more about some of the prizes and specials I will be running for those of you that participate. The first special offer is that I will offer a free “Mo Portrait” session to anyone that joins my team and grows their own Mo. This will be a short session at the end of the month to photograph the final result of your Mo growing effort so that you can [...]

Ken Eddy | Better Business Portraits

I had a great session with Calgary Realtor Ken Eddy to create some updated business portraits for his websites and marketing materials. He wanted a good variety of photography that he could use on the various websites that he uses to promote his businesses. While Ken is a Real Estate Broker with Re/Max in Calgary, and he is also a professional speaker and he has a new website coming online to promote his Real Estate Training seminars. He specifically wanted some images that would show off his look as a speaker. I suggested that we photograph all of the images on a white backdrop so that the background could easily be cut out so that the images could be adapted for whatever use they were required for.

Santa Baby – Christmas Greeting Cards

It's just about time to start thinking about your Christmas greeting card order for this year! While I still have many of the designs that were available last year (in both flat photo cards and traditional press printed flat or folded greeting cards), I also have a number of new designs and an all new boutique line of Die-Cut cards. Boutique cards are press printed on traditional greeting card stock. They are also die-cut to create basic shapes, curved shapes, scalloped edges, geometric and ornate designs. Die-cut Cards may be provided with sticker or magnet backings for fun gifts and year round display for your friends and family. These are a premium press-printed product that you are not likely to see from any of your friends! They are available in several shapes (Round, Square, Rectangular, Ornate, Scalloped, and more), and sizes (5x5, 5x7). Also new this year are additional sizes for the flat photo cards. Last year I only offered 5x7 cards. This year I have added 4x6, 4x8, and 5x5 cards to the line-up. Every holiday card order will be custom tailored using your own images, names, greetings, etc. Mailing envelopes are included with every order. Pricing for the various shapes and sizes can be seen by visiting the Sample Portrait Gallery in the client area of the website. Here are example images for all of the greeting card designs that are available this year:
