Andrew Lin | Better Business Portrait

Although the fall portrait season is in full swing, I still have some of my "normal" work going on at the same time. I had a great session that I wanted to share. Andrew is a Real Estate Broker with RE/MAX House of Real Estate in Calgary. He needed a business portrait for use on his marketing materials and social media accounts. He knew exactly the type of shot that he wanted, right down to the arrangement of the studio lighting for the portrait! This is very different from most of my portrait sessions. My clients typically don't know what they want or need and they are very open to suggestion. I always ask a few questions to make sure that I understand how and where the images will be used, and how many images the client wants. With that information I can suggest some appropriate clothing, backdrop color, and poses. But when the client knows what they want I'm happy to work with them to create a specific look and feel. In this case Andrew found another image in my portfolio that he liked and I was able to recreate the lighting from the previous session. It worked out really well and before Andrew left he had picked the image he wanted and I was able to get the final product out to him before the end of the day. Smooth! Steven Owad | Author Headshots

I had the pleasure of creating headshots for Steven Owad recently. Steven is a local crime novelist who has 2 published books to his credit. He is currently working on another book (Hard Currency, coming in June of 2012) and he needed some new portraits for use on his website and marketing materials. The image(s) will also be used for the cover of the new book. We had a fun creative portrait session and made lots of great images for Steve to choose from. Some of them were done on a white backdrop to make them easier to "cut out" from the background. You can see these images in use on Steven's updated website... Here are a few of my favorites:

Headquarters Bookkeeping & Tax | Better Business Portraits

I went into the offices of a Calgary based Headquarters Bookkeeping & Tax to create new headshots for each of their employees for use on their website. They have recently expanded into some extra office space and they had a great conference room that I could use to set up my portable studio equipment to do their portraits right in their workspace. I really enjoy working on-location and this was a perfect situation where I was able to make it easy for the employees to go about their business until I needed them... Headquarters provide consulting, bookkeeping, management, tax, and corporate registry services for small businesses in the Calgary area. They specialize in improving the financial health of trade professionals (construction, carpentry, or other contract services), but they also work with other small businesses to get their finances in order.

Calgary Headshots & Business Portraits

I had a session at a local business to create some headshots for use at an upcoming conference. The client will be presenting at the conference and he needed a Speakers Headshot for use in the conference handouts and other collateral materials. He was very busy in advance of the session and he needed a Calgary Photographer that could come to him in order to make his portrait instead of having to take the time to go into a studio somewhere. He was very happy to learn about our on-location photography services, and even happier that we were able to get the portrait done quickly and efficiently. The portable studio equipment that we use is very high quality and we can set it up just about anywhere. This is one of the advantages of choosing a custom portrait photographer... You get exactly what you want, where and when YOU need it. Is your business portrait up to date? I had the honor of photographing a Calgary businessman recently to create business headshots for use on his website and marketing materials. David West is a Social Media Consultant and Professional Speaker, and the owner of Ekzact Solutions. Ekzact is a leading Calgary website design and search engine optimization company. They specialize in creating custom websites for small to medium-sized businesses and help them to get ranked higher on Google and ultimately convert leads to sales. David needed updated headshots to use on a rebuild of his personal website and he wanted to be able to cut out the background so that the images would blend into the existing colors on the site. I have a selection of backdrops available and I would normally recommend something more attractive than pure white for business portraits, but when the background is going to be removed anyway then the best choice is to use something clean and simple without any patterns. We decided that a pure white seamless paper backdrop would be a great choice for this session so that extraction of the backdrop in Photoshop would be easy.
