SMArt Headshots | Better Business Portraits

I had an opportunity to create Business Portraits for the team at a local Calgary IT company called Service Management Art (SMArt). They needed a Portrait Photographer to make headshots for use on their website, social media accounts, and print materials. We had a fun portrait session in their offices and I came away with a few great images that I'm very happy with. Those of you that have heard me speak at a Calgary business networking meeting probably know how I feel about bad business portraits... they need to go away! Your business headshot is the first thing that people see when they look you up on your company website, on LinkedIn, on Facebook, or even on Twitter. If you want to make a great first impression then your headshot needs to look great too. Thanks to Peter Lijnse at SMArt for choosing me to create Better Business Portraits for his team.

Laszlo Business Portrait Session

It's funny how the work I do goes in waves. For awhile it seemed like I was a full-time Pet Photographer. More recently I've been very busy doing Business Portraits for small-business owners. Everybody in business needs a headshot and it's very important that they look great. A business portrait is usually the first thing that people see when they are looking for information about other businesses and their employees and owners, so these sessions are very important to me. And getting together with other entrepreneurs is always lots of fun, so I really enjoy doing them! Here are a couple of headshots from a Business Portrait session with Adrianna Laszlo, a Calgary based IT Consultant. Adrianna needed Headshots for her website and her various social media accounts. We had a fun session in my home studio and I'm really happy with the results.

Business Portraits

I just wanted to quickly share a couple of the headshots I created at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce "Business After Hours" event the other night. The event was lots of fun and I made some really great contacts. I also reconnected with lots of other people that I have met at previous events. This was the first time that I had my own both in the trade show portion the event. We didn't have a typical booth though; we had a full photography studio setup and we offered a very special price for Business Portraits for anyone that wanted one. Here are a couple of my favorites.

Portraits and Group Shots

I had a recent corporate photography session with the Board of Directors and several senior employees of MCF Housing for Seniors. MCF is a local non-profit organization that provides "affordable, safe and secure housing options for Calgary's seniors". The photo session was held in one of the facilities that the organization operates. They wanted a group portrait that included only the volunteer members of their Board of Directors, as well as another group shot including the Directors and the Senior Employees in attendance. They also needed business head shots for several people as well. I pre-scouted the location to make sure that it would be suitable for the images that I was being asked to provide. As soon as I walked into the lodge I knew that I wanted to do the shoot right in the middle of the main lobby. The building has a rather grand entrance that opens onto a magnificent central lobby with vaulted ceilings and a wall of windows on either end. The residence wings are arrayed to each side of the lobby and their are balconies at each end of each floor that open onto the lobby. The residents of the lodge use the lobby area for meals, social gatherings, and special events. There is a large open area in the center of the room that I thought would be perfect for the group shots. I knew that some of the residents would be eating their breakfast in the background of the scene, but to my mind that added to the images rather than detracting. I felt that it would highlight the softer side of the organization (and it's reason for being) while also reducing the corporate feeling automatically associated [...]
