Calgary Fall Portrait Photography

We are fortunate to live in a city that has lots of wonderful and beautiful parks. Among those great parks is a hidden gem called Carburn Park that only a lucky few know about. I’m exaggerating of course, because Carburn Park really is quite well-known, but it’s not often listed with the other great parks in the city. I’m OK with that, but I’m also very proud of the park and I am always happy to use it as a location for outdoor portrait sessions for family, children, and even business headshots.

Having said all that, I hadn’t been to Carburn for quite a while and I felt like I needed to do a little bit of location scouting before I go there for a couple of upcoming portrait sessions. I wasn’t really sure if the fall colors had fully popped in the park yet, so I wanted to take a good look around.

That, and the weather has been absolutely gorgeous in Calgary lately and I really just wanted to get outside with my kids! So we went down to the park for a nice bike ride around the lake. I recently took the training wheels off Andrew’s bike and so far he has only ridden in the alley with somebody close by to help him out. This was to be his first solo ride! I wasn’t at all worried because he has been doing really well without the training wheels and he has hardly even fallen. He’s a natural and the only help he has needed has been a little bit of help to get going from a complete stop, but he’s even got that figured out now…

While at the park we did stop a few times to do some “test shots”, which means that my kids act silly for a while until I can convince them to let me make one nice image “for Mom”! The colors are amazing right now and I’m really looking forward to shooting lots of portrait sessions over the next few weeks of the fall color season!
