As a little bonus for my friends and followers every month I provide a free image for use as your desktop background wallpaper on your computer. Each beautiful photo is a picture that I have created and it always includes a calendar overlay for the month. I know that I’m always looking for a calendar and having one on my desktop is very convenient!

The wallpaper image for this month is from a trip to the prairies to the South-East of Calgary. I had been trying to find a Meadowlark all through the spring leading up to this without much success. I had seen a couple, but never managed to make any great images. I was very excited to find this one happily singing away on a fencepost. Their song is even more beautiful than the bird!

The wallpaper image for this month is from a trip to the prairies to the South-East of Calgary. I went out to do some landscape photography at sunset. It was the one day of the month when the moonrise coincided with the sunset, which often leads to spectacular landscape scenery. Although I was really planning to create some really cool images that involved the rising moon, but this silhouette of a pumpjack against the setting sun was the image that jumped out at me that night. Oilfield pump jacks are scattered all over the prairie landscape, but most of us rarely see them looking as beautiful as this!

The wallpaper image for this month is from a trip to the Calgary Zoo. The Red Pandas are beautiful creatures and very fun to watch. The Calgary Zoo is full of birds and animals that we really couldn’t see anywhere else in the area and it’s a great place for a family visit. The kids love it and we always have a great time when we go.

The wallpaper image for this month is from a snowshoeing trip along the Bow River across from Carburn Park in SE Calgary. There are lots of Eagles that overwinter along the Bow River in and around Calgary. During just a short snowshoe trip I had 5 eagles soaring above me. This one circled directly overhead for a couple of minutes and it seemed like it was simply watching me. It was very exciting! Although this picture is from last winter, there are even more eagles along the river in the same area this year than I have ever seen before.

The wallpaper image for this month is from a family trip into the mountains last spring to go snowshoeing at Lake Minnewanka. As it turned out there was hardly enough snow to need the snowshoes, but we had a great day anyway. We explored the trails along the west side of the lake all the way to the bridge across the gorge. On the way out we wandered out onto the ice to have a good look at the massive ice heaves on the lake itself. The beautiful blue ice was incredible to see and it made for some great landscape photography.

Free Desktop Wallpaper

Apparently I need to put a reminder on my calender to issue my newest calendar at the end of the month. Because although I had the image files prepared well in advance, I totally forgot to write this post to announce it! Oh well, better late than never…

As a little bonus for my friends and followers every month I provide a free image for use as your desktop background wallpaper on your computer. Each beautiful photo is a picture that I have created and it always includes a calendar overlay for the month. I know that I’m always looking for a calendar and having one on my desktop is very convenient!

The wallpaper image for this month is a fun image of Pepper running in the snow. For those of you that don’t know it already (I’m not sure how that could be possible) Pepper is the latest addition to our family. She is now a 6 month old black lab/golden retriever/border collie cross puppy. Although she can be a bit of a devil (especially when carpets are left unattended) she is also tons of fun. She loves the snow and she loves to run!

I created this image while on a family hike at the Heart Creek Trail near Canmore. The trail is a relatively easy hike but provides many beautiful views of the forest and rocky cliffs as it follows a meandering creek up a canyon. It actually crosses the creek about 8 times on some rustic wooden bridges that provide great backdrop for scenic family portraits!

The wallpaper image for this month is a portrait of one of the three Tiger Cubs at the Calgary Zoo.

The triplets (Kira, Samkha and Vasili) were born to mom Katja at the zoo in the summer. Although this image was created in August when they were only about 4 months old, I saw them again in October and they are still extremely cute! They are very playful and always looking for ways to gain an edge over each other. This particular cub had claimed the high ground on a fallen log. Shortly after this moment the cub took full advantage of the extra height and pounced down onto the other two siblings. I’ve been able to watch them play a few times now and it’s easy to get lost in the moment. If you haven’t been down to the Zoo to see the cubs yet you really should. While you’re at it stop by the new penguin exhibit which is also great fun!

The wallpaper image for this month features a scenic image from Carburn Park in Calgary. I love the fall season and it’s amazing to see an entire forest glowing in golden yellows and oranges. Carburn Park in particular is an amazing place and there is wide variety of terrain and scenery throughout the park. Whether you are looking for a quiet place to relax, or if you want to watch the birds and animals go about there lives, there is a little bit for everyone in the park. It is a wonderful place to be and it’s a fantastic time of year to be there.

The wallpaper image for this month features a pair of living leaves on a Maple Tree. When we think about the maple leaf we most often think of the beautiful red leaves of fall in eastern North America, but the leaves are truly beautiful even when they are vibrant and full of life in the summer too. Fall is just around the corner, but for now we can continue to enjoy the beautiful summer that we’ve been lucky to have this year!

Free Desktop Wallpaper

This months wallpaper image features a Common Orange Daylily from a family hike we did up Grotto Canyon in Bow Valley Provincial Park (near Canmore). This is a beautiful little hike up through a narrow canyon. There were several rock climbers in action along the canyon walls and plenty of beautiful sights to see. Waterfalls, ancient pictographs, and a lovely cold and clear stream burbling all the way down the canyon. It’s not a difficult hike, but it was a great way to spend a family afternoon.

Although these plants are considered to be an invasive species they are extremely beautiful and I have spent hours photographing them in the past. They are very hardy and grow in a wide variety of terrain. The next time you go for a hike in the Canmore area be sure to look out for them!
